Australian Open 2027: What to Expect as a Tennis Fan in Melbourne

Australian Open 2027 at a glance
The Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the tennis season, is on at Melbourne Park from 11 to 31 January 2027. It opens with Opening Week from 11 to 16 January, the main draw starts on Sunday 17 January, and the singles finals are on 30 and 31 January.
Plan your visit
Tickets, session times and entry details change every year, so check the official Australian Open website before you go. The tournament is as much a summer festival as a tennis event, with live music, food and entertainment around the Melbourne Park precinct, and the park is close to the city centre. January in Melbourne can be very hot, so bring sunscreen, a hat and water, and plan a little time indoors.
Make a day of it: what to do around the tennis
Rain delays, rest days and long evenings are the perfect excuse to try something different with your group. Entermission Melbourne is on Bourke Street in the CBD, with private VR experiences you can play together:
- Free roam VR escape rooms: one-hour sessions where your team walks around freely and solves the puzzles together (most teams finish in about 45 minutes). Choose from Depths of Osiris, Dragon Tower, Manor of Escape, Pirates Plague, Space Station Tiberia and Time Travel Paradox.
- VR challenge room games: fast, replayable free roam games of about 15 minutes each. Book a 30-minute or 60-minute session.
- Game Night: our mixed reality party experience. You wear a headset, see your friends and play seven quick games using hand tracking, in a 30-minute session.
- Maui’s Treasure: our family-friendly in-person escape room.
Every booking is private, so your group never plays with strangers, and our game masters brief you before every game and help your team along the way. We’re open daily from 10:30am (closing at 7:30pm Sunday to Thursday and 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays), so it’s easy to fit in around the tennis. January weekends book out quickly, so book ahead.
